Analog Assault Episode 11: Single-Player Games Are Dead & Destiny’s Data Dump

Recorded on Thursday, October 26, 2017.

13 original Xbox titles have finally made it to the backwards compatibility program on Xbox One. We’ll quickly go over the games, and Wade delves a bit further into one particularly well-loved classic making a return. Hint: It’s Star Wars.

Recently, Phil Spencer and Shannon Loftis of Xbox have commented on the current state of single player games. The Mules share thoughts on our gaming ecosystem and how single-player titles can still fit in.

Destiny 2 has officially launched on the PC, and with it comes the predictably juicy news of data miners sharing their bounties. We’ll talk briefly about some of the contents of one such mining report, as well as some of the changes Bungie is bringing to Destiny 2 according to the recent This Week at Bungie.

Your submissions to Shots Fired ask us about our favorite weapons, gaming setups, tearjerkers, and comparing Destiny 2 with Destiny 1.

10: Eviscerating Visceral Games, Keyboard & Mouse on Console

Analog Assault Episode 10: Eviscerating Visceral Games, Keyboard & Mouse on Console

Recorded on Thursday, October 19, 2017.

October is still going strong this week as we talk a bit about Wolfenstein II, releasing Oct 27th. We also took a quick Twitter poll to gauge excitement for various activities as Oct 27 is going to be a busy day!

Keyboard and mouse support is headed to the Xbox One, and one manufacturer is already selling Xbox-compatible hardware. We dive into our thoughts regarding KBM users in a console environment.

Visceral games, formerly of Dead Space fame, was responsible for producing a mysterious new release in EA’s Star Wars line-up. With Amy Hennig (Uncharted) leading the team, a very promising game was to be in store. Now, Visceral is closing their doors and the game is going through some major changes, including the development team. We discuss EA’s response to the bold move and share some of our thoughts on what this means for the Star Wars title.

Your submissions for Shots Fired get us just hot and bothered about microtransactions, the shortcomings of Destiny 2, Halloween and horror games, and Cuphead.

9: Shadow of War Impressions, Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser

October 15, 2017 @ 10:06 pm

Analog Assault Episode 9: Shadow of War Impressions, Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser

Recorded on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

This week, we’re diving helmet-first into Mordor and talking about Shadow of War! MulehornGaming.com contributor and gaming bud, NateJohns is our special guest. He’ll be taking us through some of his initial impressions of Shadow of War, explaining several of the in-game systems and experiences.

Naturally, the inclusion of microtransactions in Shadow of War has been a point of some controversy. They’re also present in another new title, Star Wars Battlefront II. We discuss microtransactions as a trend in gaming, and whether they belong in single-player games, multiplayer games, and mobile titles.

The latest teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi appeared recently. With it, I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror… I kid. But, the internet is having a heyday with some of the scenes in the trailer, including what some consider to be spoilers for The Last Jedi. We’re going to dish on how we liked the teaser trailer, and then dig in to some of our concerns and points of interest.

Submissions for Shots Fired cover mostly Destiny 2 and Star Wars, with a bit of 90’s nostalgia and superhero discussion.

Analog Assault Episode 8: Star Wars Battlefront 2, Shadow of War, Assassin’s Creed Origins

Recorded on Thursday, October 5, 2017.

Happy Games-tober, fellow gamers! It’s a great time of the year to be a fan of video games.

First up, we’re chatting about Shadow of War, including its mobile counterpart. This promising sequel to Shadow of Mordor looks to improve on a successful system, but there is some scrutiny from the community regarding microtransactions.

Next, our resident Assassin’s Creed fan, Kurt dishes on the latest installment, Assassin’s Creed Origins.

The Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta is live and rolling, so we’re diving into our experience so far. We have comments on the party system, gunplay, star cards, and customization.

Of course, Destiny weasels her way onto this episode, as the faction rally comes to a close and Iron Banner approaches. We have some thoughts on events, like the faction rally and potential of festival of the lost.

Your Shots Fired submissions bring up Red Dead Redemption 2, microtransaction woes, skill-based matchmaking in Destiny 2, and much more!

7: Destiny 2 – Gaming Parents, MIDA Multi-Fools, and Faction Lore

September 23, 2017 @ 1:05 am
00:0000:00

Analog Assault Episode 7: Destiny 2 – Gaming Parents, MIDA Multi-Fools, and Faction Lore

Recorded on Thursday, September 21, 2017.

A recent article claimed that being a parent made it “practically impossible” to play Destiny 2. We disagree, and flesh out our opinions on the subject.

A number of exotic weapons and armor pieces made the jump from Destiny 1 to Destiny 2. Is this too much? The MIDA Multi-Tool is the most used weapon in Trials of the Nine as well as normal PvP. Does that mean it’s overpowered?

Factions are coming back to Destiny. Bungie just released some information about the event, Faction Rallies, and we’re here to share what we know and what we think of it. Also, we take turns discussing the histories and guiding principles of the three major factions in Destiny. Which one will you choose?

Your Shots Fired submissions ask us about balancing gaming with the demands of life, our top 5 lists, missing creature comforts in Destiny 2, and the Nintendo Switch.

Analog Assault Episode 6: To Me, Those Cabals are Perfect – Destiny 2 Spoilers

Recorded on Saturday, September 16, 2017.

You’ve had plenty of time to get through the main story campaign in Destiny 2… Time’s up! We’re ready to discuss everything in Destiny 2, including the spoilers. If you haven’t finished the story, we recommend doing so before listening. You have been warned.

We’re going to talk about the main story in Destiny 2 including Ghaul, character development, and the things that bugged us. We’ve also got a little raid experience now, so we’ll share some thoughts on that.

Recently, there was some upset about the shared clan rewards granted by teams defeating the raid and Trials of the Nine. We dish.

Also, we’ll discuss a bit of the lore uncovered in Destiny 2 as well as how it is presented.

Your submissions for Shots Fired requested theories on Eris Morn, our favorite retro cartoons, lore and story in Destiny 2, shaders, and… Boogie Nights?

Analog Assault Episode 5: Destiny 2 - Spoiler Free First Impressions, #shadergate

Recorded on Thursday, September 7, 2017.

Destiny 2 has arrived. For this first week, we’re going to attempt a relatively spoiler-free podcast for all of you cool cats that haven’t completed the campaign.

We’re dishing on the beginning of the game including gun play, the initial story and setup, voice acting, and… Eververse. Microtransactions are often a controversial subject, and Destiny 2’s offering are already stirring the pot! We hope you enjoy this first episode since the release of our new main squeeze, Destiny 2, and thank you for taking a break from the European Dead Zone to listen!

4: Cross Platform Blues, Sony’s Low Blow, and Destiny 2

00:0000:00

Analog Assault Episode 4: Cross Platform Blues, Sony’s Low Blow, and Destiny 2

Recorded on Saturday, September 2, 2017.

This week, we take a little time to remember when we first got our Xbox Ones as Microsoft recently announced they would be ceasing production of the original unit.

Destiny 2 is almost here. Like, really, it’s a day or two away! We’re sharing out thoughts on the potential for cross platform saves as well as cross play. What can we say? We’re optimistic for one, and not so much for the other…

Our cross platform discussion leads right into the next topic. Microsoft has stated they are ready to have a conversation with any development teams interested in implementing cross play. It seems Xbox is looking to play nice, but we can’t say the same about Sony. The beta test for Call of Duty WWII featured some not-so-flattering fine print as well. Salt inbound.

Your submissions for Shots Fired include, of course, Destiny 2, our favorite weapons from gaming history, and imagining a different future for aging developers and IPs.
